Sunday is Holiday.
๐ ๐ ๐ Sunday is the day of the week between Saturday and Monday. In most Western countries, Sunday is a day of rest and a part of the weekend, whereas in much of the rest of the world, it is considered the first day of the week.
When India was under the British rule, the mill workers in India had to work hard for all seven days of a week. They didn't get any holiday or any kind of leave to get rest. ... Sunday is the day of the Hindu deity 'Khandoba'. Hence Sunday should be declared as a holiday.
On 7 March 321 Rome's first Christian Emperor decreed that Sunday would be observed as the Roman day of rest. On 10th June 1890, British Government declared sunday as a holiday in India. In 1844, the governor general of British, introduced the provision of 'Sunday Holiday' for the school going students.
The Germanic people adapted the Roman system by identifying Roman gods with their own deities. Sunday comes from Old English “Sunnandรฆg," which is derived from a Germanic interpretation of the Latin dies solis, "sun's day." Germanic and Norse mythology personify the sun as a goddess named Sunna or Sรณl.
In Israel, the standard work week is from Sunday through Thursday. Friday is a short work day and Saturday is a weekend vacation day.
Sunday was traditionally regarded as the first day of the week by both Christians and Jews. Following Jewish tradition, the Bible is quite explicit that God rested on the seventh day of Creation, which formed the basis for the Sabbath, the day of rest.
In India, Similarly, if an employee take leave from Saturday to Monday where Sunday is weekly off then Sunday should not be counted as leave.
An interesting fact has come out from RTI filed by an activist in Jammu. Sunday, which is being treated as a holiday in all the public and private sectors, and everyone is accustomed to relax on this day, but the fact is that the Government of India has issued no order till now which officially declares it as a holiday.
